4th grade and Solar Ovens

Fourth grade just completed their Environmental Engineering projects where they explored technologies that can help save resources.  We read a story about a family who uses fire to cook and needs to find something else as they are running out of wood.  The story ends with the family using solar ovens to cook.  We then tested out materials to see which would make the best insulators for our solar ovens.  You can see some of the results below:
After that the students got to work on designing their ovens.  Everyone decided they needed some sort of reflector to draw in the heat/sunlight.  Some used tin foil and others used CDs.  Once they finalized their designs, they started to build!
