Engineering Challenges -3rd grade- First Challenge

Marshmallow Catapult Challenge for Third Grade was a shooting success!  (I love puns!)  First we researched what makes a catapult and how they might be made out of popsicle sticks, a spoon, and rubber bands.  We were careful not to look for answers, but to look for information.  We wanted to come up with our own answers.  The students followed the Engineering Design Process to work towards their final project.  The added challenge was that they had to do this in teams wiht limited times to get it all done.  Sometimes getting along with a team is harder than the building process!  I'm impressed with how they used the SEL skills they learn in all areas at UTES.  They really apply them to real problems.  Not all of the catapults worked the first time and frustrations had to be overcome.  Support from friends can help even the most disappointing trial.  I'm so proud of these Little Longhorns~
