2nd grade - The Dam Challenge

Second grade has been working on the Dam Challenge.  We studied waterways and the importance of controlling water flow in the world.  We looked up different types of dams and the pros and cons of each type.  Then the students were given their challenge:  to build a dam made up of popsicle sticks and clay.  They used the Engineering Design Process to work on this in their teams.  Some dams worked the first time and others needed several revisions.  They handled this like champs by encouraging each other and using their creativity to come up with new ideas.  I'm so proud of their efforts!
