zip line challenge

Second grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade all participated in the zip line challenge.  I have to admit, I have never done this one before and found the idea here.  I was a little nervous because online activities sometimes work well for small groups of kids, but are a little hard to pull off with large numbers of kids at once.  They did a great job with this!!  Their ideas were creative.  Not many of the devices worked the first time, but that's the best part of learning.  First Attempt In Learning (FAIL) was discussed.  They did not give up even when it took more than 5 times to get it right.  Their tenacity was inspiring.  These kids really know how to diagnose what went wrong; make slight changes; retest; and try again.  When it would finally work, they earned that!!  You can do this project at home on any scale you would like.  If your child does make a zip line for a doll, stuffed animal, or other toy please share it with me!
